Launch diaries (I) - New sample received, let's unpack it!

June 11, 2021 1 min read

Everyone loves having a package delivered, right? Well, receiving a first sample from a new manufacturing source can be a bit nerve-wracking!

The statement “I’m looking for really high quality workmanship” can mean different things to different people, and unpacking that new sample is the moment of truth!

The sad truth is that at the end of the day, without a trusted manufacturing partner, I don’t have a business.

It’s part of my mission to produce locally, help strengthen communities, and support other small businesses.

Unfortunately, of all garments sold, those “Made in USA” have dropped from 95% to 2% just over the past few decades.

When those jobs go away, the workers move to other industries or they retire, and soon enough there is barely anyone left who can do the job.

Artisans handling silk need special skills and experience. The material is much more slippery than for example cotton or linen fabrics, and quite unforgiving when it comes to little sewing slip-ups!

Fortunately, I was lucky finding one such local artisan. I’m so excited and grateful!

Watch me as I open this first new sample package. A first sample is always just a start and never perfect, but I am confident they will provide the fine quality I’m seeking for dresses that fit and feel amazing.
